How The State of Illinois is Unravelling Its Human Services - comprehensive 2016 report

Illinois Partners for Human Service is sharing their most recent research project - "The Damage is Done: How Illinois is Unravelling Its Human Services" - a comprehensive look into how the budget impasse has harmed human services district-by-district, category-by-category in our state, funded by The Chicago Community Trust.

Driven by Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to each Human Service state agency, this research contains interactive "heat maps," where you can easily view data showing the drastic decline of spending for human services in just one year between FY15 and FY16.

"The Illinois budget impasse has been a disaster for the state’s human service infrastructure.  The most respected and prominent human service providers are being run out of our state. Entire human service programs – like homeless services and sexual assault prevention – are in danger of going extinct in Illinois. Of the 1400+ human service program categories funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services and Aging, the majority have received substantial cuts."

The data provided is directly from the state agencies.

Chicago Sun-Times writer Mark Brown discussed the impacts in his column today which you can read here. We are hoping you will use this website as a resource.

We would like to thank Illinois Partners for Human Service for sharing the information.
