Illinois seniors, disabled can apply for help with heating bills starting Sept. 1st

The State of Illinois Priority Enrollment in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) Program begins Sept. 1, 2017 at the 35 local agencies that administer the state-federal program.
Priority Enrollment starts Sept.1, the enrollment for seniors and people with disabilities is available throughout September, and as always can apply throughout the year as long as funds are available.
   
The program offers help with winter heating bills, and offers assistance to low-income residents by paying benefits directly to utility companies    
A single person qualifies for help if their monthly income is $1,485 or less. A two-person household can qualify with a monthly income of up to $2,003.
  
Documentation such as proof of income is required to apply.
  
Families with young children ages 5 and younger can start applying for assistance starting Oct. 1. 
All other residents can begin applying Nov. 1.
